THE EMERGENT UNIVERSE ALLIANCE

ICAM is developing a distributed global science outreach and educational network, the Emergent Universe Alliance, http://eualliance.org, to promote novel educational initiatives that take full advantage of the internet to help learners of all ages develop an informed emergent perspective on our emergent universe.

For the student or the non-scientist, developing an emergent perspective does not mean receiving a scientific education, but rather an education about science. It involves learning, through an exposure to science and scientists, experiment and theory, what it means to live in an emergent universe, and what are the strengths and limitations of a science-based approach to solving the problems posed by science and society.

In growing the Emergent Universe Alliance, we will begin locally, but connect globally. Our strategy is to identify leaders of strong web-based, teacher-based, and institution-based efforts and to invite them and their institutions to join us in developing innovative ways to integrate their best materials and make these readily available to the global community.

We will use the ICAM branch membership as our base to grow the Emergent Universe Alliance into a global partnership of individuals, science museums, educational institutions, and scientific societies that work together to:

  • communicate their current outreach and educational efforts to one another and to a shared public
  • share their  “best practices” in using the internet as a significant educational tool
  • create a linked global library of the best of the web-based, museum-based, and teacher-based materials on emergent behavior in matter and nature and role that such behavior plays in influencing individuals, governments, and society
  • make full use of these resources to help scientists and teachers at  member institutions realize their full outreach and teaching potential

Individual donors, corporations and foundations who are interested in supporting these efforts are invited to contact the ICAM development office at  icamadmin@ucdavis.edu.
